- "WATSON, Albert William, a Representative from South Carolina; born in Sumter, Sumter County, S.C., August 30, 1922; attended the public schools of Columbia, S.C.; attended North Greenville Junior College, Greenville, S.C.; graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Columbia, S.C., 1950; United States Army Air Corps, 1942-1946; lawyer, private practice; member of the South Carolina state general assembly, 1955-1958 and 1961-1962; national chairman, Voice of Democracy Program, United States Junior Chamber of Commerce, 1957; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-eighth and to the succeeding Congress (March 4, 1963-February 1, 1965); resigned on February 1, 1965, after being stripped of seniority by House Democratic Caucus because of his support of the Republican presidential candidate; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-ninth Congress by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by his own resignation; reelected to the Ninetieth and to the succeeding Congress (June 15, 1965-January 3, 1971); not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-second Congress in 1970, but was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of South Carolina in 1970; administrative law judge, Social Security Administration; died on September 25, 1994, in Columbia, S.C.; interment in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, Richland County, S.C."--Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.
