- Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee during Sanitation Workers' Strike in 1968 and the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Loeb, unsympathetic to most of the workers' demands, was especially opposed to the union. Loeb served as mayor from 1960-1964 and 1968-1972.
