- Biography:
- James Forman (October 4, 1928 - January 10, 2005) was an American civil rights leader. After he finished high school, he served in the Air Force in Okinawa during the Korean War. He then studied at Roosevelt University, and graduated in 1957. He was executive secretary of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee from 1961 to 1965, helping to make the institution politically important at the height of the civil rights movement. James Forman died on January 10, 2005 of colon cancer, aged 76, a Washington, D.C. hospice.
