- Description:
- Jackie Robinson arrives in Columbia. Greeted by Reverend I.D. Newman and supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey. Answers questions about Strom Thurmond and Richard Nixon's presidential campaign. "I think a Nixon/Agnew victory means simply that we go backwards in terms of progress in this country in per--in terms of doing things that should make this country great. I think it's a tragedy that today we are having a racist appeal ticket in 1968." Robinson goes on to describe South Carolina senator Strom Thurmond as "one of the worst racists" in the country.
