- Description:
- Various shots of Army National Guardsmen. Long shot line of Highway Patrol cars. Interior: various scenes Wayne Seal, Governor's Press Secretary answering questions at a press conference. Explains the chronology of the outbreak of violence. Exterior: Jeryl Best being interviewed. Denies being the leader of the mob that attacked two school buses, overturning them. He says he was talking to a Highway Patrolman at the time of the incident. He claims that Lamar is under ""the dictatorship of [State] Senator James Mozingo."" These comments refer to the Lamar riots on March 3, 1970, when approximately 150-200 white men and women rioted in a violent response to court-ordered desegregation in Lamar, South Carolina. Rioters attacked buses carrying elementary to high school aged children, fought with law enforcement officers, and overturned two empty school buses that students had recently fled.
