- Relatives of Otis Britt and Douglas Westbury visit South Carolina Governor Ernest Hollings to plead for executive clemency. Women walk down hall to door marked Governor. Closeup sign. Women and men come out of Governor's office. Unidentified man speaking says, we begged the Governor to give these men life instead of the electric chair. He turned us down. and I've known Otis Britt for fifteen years and he hasn't had a chance on life. Long shot people in parking lot. Interior: medium shot Governor Hollings seated at desk. Man in prison cell. Closeup another man. Medium shot prisoners being escorted into building. Britt and Westbury were convicted and sentenced to death for the September 7, 1958 murder of South Carolina Highway Patrolman Harry Boyd Ray. Governor Hollings did not grant clemency, and the pair were executed later that day (June 19, 1961).
