- An oral history interview by William Gravely with the late Senator J. Strom Thurmond at his office in Washington, DC, on August 21, 1989. Thurmond was the Governor of South Carolina in 1947, when the lynching of Willie Earle and the nationally-covered trial for suspected members of the lynching mob took plce. The interview conversationally recounts Thurmond's personal experience of the political and legal climate surrounding the case. A final transcript and correspondence are included with the interview.
