- Loften Mitchell was born in 1919. He was an African-American playwright, historian, and writer. He died in 2001. He wrote a history of African Americans in theater, published in 1967. His plays include Blood in the Night (1946); A Land Beyond the River (1957), based on Joseph DeLaine's experience fighting school segregation; and Bubbling Brown Sugar (1975).--From African American registry, retrieved January 22, 2009.
