- Biography:
- Marion Townsend King Jackson, wife of Albany, Georgia civil rights activist Slater King, Marion Townsend King was a Spelman graduate. In 1962 during a visit to a Mitchell County jail to distribute supplies and food to imprisoned civil rights protesters, a pregnant Marion King was attacked by police. As a direct result of the attack, King lost her baby. King received her law degree from Mercer University in the 1970s and served as an assistant attorney for Atlanta during the Maynard Jackson and Andrew Young administrations.
