The W. S. Hoole Special Collections Library holds more than 2,750 manuscript collections, ranging from single pieces of correspondence to hundreds of linear feet. Included are family papers, plantation records, business records, Congressional papers, and other materials related to Alabama and the South. The extensive photographic collections include photographs from the 1850s to the present, and include every nineteenth century photographic process. The Alabama Collection is made up of titles by Alabamians, about Alabama, and published in the state. Rare books include 16th and 17th century European texts, Southern history, and first editions of American literature.
