- Description:
- In this WSB newsfilm clip dated July 29, 1963, Amos Basel, a Liberal party candidate for councilman at large for Manhattan, speaks to an unidentified reporter regarding banning the sale of the Confederate flag in New York City. He compares the proposed ban with the precedents of banning the Ku Klux Klan hoods and the Nazi swastika, the later being done under New York Mayor Fiorello La Guardia. He states that people who are interested in civil rights would condemn the use of the symbol of the Confederate flag because it is being used against African Americans and as a symbol to maintain slavery.
