Description
Web site presenting the history of African Americans in Charlotte, North Carolina, from the 1940s through the 1990s. Presented in scrapbook form, the site documents the history of "Daddy" Grace's last parade, the lost neighborhood of Brooklyn, the 1963 desegregation of city parks and public places, school integration, bombing of civil rights leaders' homes, and the state championship of the integrated West Charlotte High School. The exhibibt uses sound, graphics, animation, video, and interactive elements and is arranged by events, places, keepsakes and heritage. The first African American Album was published by the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County in 1992 and presented African American history in the city through 1950; this second album was originally released on a CD-ROM in 1997., The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
