Lillian Smith (1897-1966) was an author, lecturer, and human rights advocate. She was born in Jasper, Florida and resided in Rabun County, Georgia. She is well known for her novels Killers of the Dream and Strange Fruit. She criticized racial segregation in the South and attempted to dismantle many Jim Crow laws., This collection consists of correspondence between Lillian Smith and her publisher, W.W. Norton & Company, particularly with George P. Brockway and Storer B. Lunt. The letters discuss distribution of her works, publicity to sell her books, and reviews of her works.
