- This World War I era portrait pictures Edward Gaillard (1878 or 1881-1947). Gaillard was born in Jamaica (then part of the British West Indies) and attended Tuskegee Institute (now University). He served in both teh Spanish American War and World War I as a Liertenant, and was later active in the American Legion. Mr. Gaillard spent his career as a school teacher in Indianapolis in IPS Schools No. 4, 17, and 24; and for eighteen years as an industrial arts teacher at Crispus Attucks High School.
