- Description:
- Outside Crispus Attucks High School, this historic marker reads: "Built 1927 to serve as the only public high school for Indianapolis black population. Integrated 1970 under court-ordered desegregation. Converted to junior high, 1986. Listed in National Register of Historic Places, 1989. Named for patriot of American Revolution." In 2006 Attucks became a high school once again as a medical magnet serving grades 6 to 12. After several years without competing, Attucks rebuilt its basketball team in 2014 followed by a football team two years later. Attucks also houses a museum filled with memorabilia from the school’s history.
