- In May of 1963, black elementary, middle, and high school students in Birmingham left school to participate in a four-day civil rights demonstration. Washington Booker was among approximately 2,000 students who were arrested and jailed for their part in what came to be known as the Children's Crusade. In this interview, Booker describes his experience.
