- Quote from document: Willie Williams is a Black G.I. from Seattle. He is imprisoned in the Ft. Lewis stockade for exercising his right of free speech. Willie has been in the stockade for five months and he hasn't been convicted of a crime. Announces: Rally to protest imprisonment of G.I. Willie Williams at the Federal Office Building in Seattle Historical background: On June 29, 1970 Private Willie Williams, an Afro-American GI at Fort Lewis, was court-martialed for presenting an antiwar statement and poster to his commanding officer, and sentenced despite a June 19 rally at the Shelter Half coffeehouse in Tacoma in his support. Note on date: 1970 is penciled on the document.
