Quote: "Cubans were among the first people in the world to understand U.S. imperialism. They were among the first to be menaced by it, to suffer from it. American dreams of annexing Cuba go back to the early 1800's...On top of everything else was political domination. 'Until the advent of Castro,[sic] according to Earl T. Smith, former American ambassador to Cuba, 'the American ambassador was the second most important man in Cuba, sometimes even more important than the president.'...While imperialism is a system, not a matter of who is president or what is his policy, some specific characteristics of Nixon may be of significance."
