- Announces: "We must keep from burying our civilization under our own trash. It's up to you." Calls for: "1. Organize and/or participate in trash-collecting drives in your community ... 2. Pressure your supermarket to minimize packaging and/or to use returnable, reusable containers ... 3. Boycott laundries that won't reuse hangers ... 4. Don't buy products that come in unreusable containers." Quote from document: "THIS YEAR we will somehow have to dispose of 3.5 billion tons of solid waste, which includes 360 million tons of commercial and household refuse, an average of 5.3 pounds per person per day. The price American cities have to pay to collect and deal with our refuse amounts to 4.5 billion dollars a year. (Figures from U.S. News and World Report, Sept. 8, 1969.)"
