- Description:
- Announces: "I.W.W. Membership Meeting, August 28, 1970 [at] ID Bookstore, 1408 NE 42nd, 7:30 P.M." Quote from document: "Hi! Something to test your sense of humor and appreciation of satire, or you may keep it as a collector's item! Best wishes and all that from -- One of the Rip Van Winkle clan." Background information: [On the IWW, also known as the Wobblies:] "Founded in Chicago in June 1905 at a convention of two hundred socialists, anarchists, and radical trade unionists from all over the United States (mainly the Western Federation of Miners) opposed to the policies of the American Federation of Labour ... The Wobblies differed from other union movements of the time by emphasizing rank-and-file organization as opposed to empowering leaders who would bargain with employers on behalf of workers. They were one of the few unions to welcome all workers including women, foreigners and black workers. Wobblies were condemned by politicians and in the Press who saw them as a threat to the status quo." (Industrial Workers of the World. Wikipedia.
