Attend the Antiwar Basic Training Days Announces: Daily car pools to Ft. Lewis "from the AFSC parking lot at 4001 9th NE at 7 and 11 AM, and at 1 PM, every day beginning Wednesday the 19th." Calls for: "We call on all students and civilians to join us in daily car pools to Ft. Lewis ... We will attend the trials to express our support for the men, and we will issue information releases on the trial ... We will use the case to build the defense of the Presidio GI's and to build antiwar movement so that we can defend them even more." Background information: "Perhaps the single best known event of the domestic GI movement was the October 1968 mutiny at Presidio prison in California ... twenty seven men attempted a sit-in-style demonstration at morning formation to protest harsh conditions and the recent killing of an inmate [by a prison guard.] Tried as mutineers, the protestors were given severe punishments, and a long legal battle ensued."
