- Biographical entry on Wyatt Tee Walker, African American civil rights activist, author, and religious leader. During the 1950s, Walker was active in the Civil Rights movement in Virginia serving as president of the Petersburg branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Virginia state director of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in Virginia, and founder of the Petersburg Improvement Association. In the 1960s, he was Martin Luther King, Jr.'s chief of staff and the first full-time executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), a position he held until 1964.
