- Description:
- Program: Second Annual Conference Georgia Interracial Committee, March 3.1939 Lists Program of the conference, Conference Committee members and the executives of the Georgia Interracial Committee. This Committee was headed by a noted Gainesville, Georgia clergyman and the President of historically-black Atlanta University. The Committee focused on problems of higher education and the 1938 Gaines Decision of the U. S. Supreme Court which had established the principle of "equality of education" and was a forerunner to the 1954 Brown v. Topeka Board of Education ruling which ended, at least on paper, public school segregation. Scarce ephemeral imprint showing early Southern attempts at bi-racial Civil Rights action.
