Billie Hughes of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol.Hughes was born in Pearl River County, Mississippi.He grew up in Pike County, Mississippi.After working for the railroad industry, Hughes became a Mississippi highway patrolman in 1964.He served as a trooper during the height of racial tensions in Mississippi during the sixties.
