- Description:
- From the Miller (Michael J.) Civil Rights Collection; The report describes Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) projects in Ruleville, Mississippi, in the early 1960s. It illustrates the political positions of specific Mississippi politicians with quotes that show their vehement support for segregation and white supremacy. It makes special note of how many of these politicians are members of the White Citizens' Council. The report also documents specific incidents of the intimidation of African Americans who attempted to register to vote or participated in the Civil Rights movement and the intimidation of out-of-state civil rights workers. The report includes demography, education, health, employment, housing, and occupation statistics that demonstrate the general condition of African Americans in Sunflower County, Mississippi. These statistics are accompanied by tables, graphs, and maps.
