- Description:
- From the Dahl (Kathleen) Freedom Summer Collection. News release (press release) from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee headquarters in Atlanta. The news release identifies the Association of Tenth Amendment Conservatives (ATAC), based in Cleveland, Mississippi as a new organization. ATAC members, mostly white Mississippi college students, were to respond to and "peacably discuss" segregation with the civil rights workers who came to Mississippi during Freedom Summer 1964. Also mentioned in the news release are the White Citizens councils, the Association for the Preservation of the White Race (APWR), and the Ku Klux Klan. ATAC is reported in this news release as one of several organizations involved in statewide opposition to civil rights workers and the summer project.
