- From the Dahl (Kathleen) Freedom Summer Collection. Three-page statement written by John Lewis, chair of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) from 1963-1966. Lewis's statement compares the struggle for equal rights for African Americans in the United States to the situation for black Africans and describes specific problems in the South that concern SNCC.
