- From the East (P.D.) Collection. <br>Typewritten copy of an address by P.D. East titled "On the attainment of distinction" and delivered at Vassar College in December 1962. East discusses his newspaper, The Petal paper, public and commercial responses he received related to positions he took that were considered controversial by some in the Hattiesburg, Mississippi, area. He also discusses harassment he experienced, threats, and slander to which he was subjected as a result of his social and political views. Other topics include race relations, politics, liberty, and the distinction of freedom.
