- Description:
- In this series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips, and unidentified black student community organizer discusses actions to be taken within the black community following the killings of student protestors in Orangeburg, South Carolina on February 8, 1968. He indicates that they students want to work with members of the community and their leaders to improve conditions. While they have some specific objectives, they are not yet announcing them. There is to be a rally at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church on Ashby Street (now Joseph E. Lowery Blvd.) to raise money to assist the 28 students that were injured and to take care of arrangements for the three who were killed. At the same time as this interview, other student activists were meeting with the administrators of the Atlanta University Center requesting that they make a statement against actions such as occurred in Orangeburg. The statement subsequently appeared in The Atlanta Constitution, February 23, 1968, page 12, titled "An Appeal for the Protection of American College Students."
