- Description:
- Black and white photograph of police officers talking to two African-American student protestors during the Chattanooga sit-ins of February 1960. This photograph was taken on the fourth day of protests when many arrests were made. The officer on the right had a motorcycle which obstructed the view of the scene, but it appears that a few other officers were possibly taking down information. An officer standing in between the two boys was examining a pad of paper with a pencil in hand--possibly reading them something. The officer with the motorcycle and an officer standing behind the boy on the left watched. They had not been arrested at this point as the boy on the left was not in handcuffs (the motorcycle blocks the view of the boy on the right's hands). The scene took place in front of Stein's clothing store. The name "Wilson" is written on the back referring to the photographer, likely Delmont Wilson of the Chattanooga News-Free Press.
