- Description:
- Black and white photograph a crowd outside of a department store during the Chattanooga sit-ins of February1960. The crowd gathered outside of the S.H. Kress & Company department store, probably on the second or third day of protests. The people closest to the camera were white. Those closest to the storefront were African American and mostly male. A police officer stood closest to the camera and appeared to be talking to someone to his right who was not visible in the picture. The name "Wilson" is written on the back referring to the photographer, likely Delmont Wilson of the Chattanooga News-Free Press.
