- Description:
- Black and white photograph of a large group of African American students gathered in protest during the Chattanooga sit-ins of February 1960. This photo was taken either on the second or third day of protests. The group was mostly male, but a group of three females were in front having a conversation. Other than the girl who was talking (who looks like she may have been smiling), the overall feel of the photograph is rather serious. A group of white males including three men, a young man, and a boy looked at the crowd from the lower-right corner. They may have been talking with a few of the protestors. The name "Wilson" is written on the back referring to the photographer, likely Delmont Wilson of the Chattanooga News-Free Press.
