- Robert E. McNair (on the far left) became governor on April 22, 1965 when Governor Donald Russell stepped down in order to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant after the death of Olin D. Johnston. Here, he stands with Sol Blatt, Sr. and Blatt's wife Ethel. Sol Blatt, Jr. (on the far right) practiced law with his father until 1971, when he became a U.S. District Court Judge.
