- Description:
- Even while Blatt remained busy with his work in the state legislature, he continued to be involved in Barnwell politics. For example, he was chairman of the Barnwell Public Schools Board of Trustees from 1942 until 1962. To honor him for his years of service, the school board named the gymnasium at Barnwell High School after him. One gymnasium at the University of South Carolina also bears his name. The other gym on campus at the University bears the name of Blatt's political rival, Strom Thurmond.
