- This is merely a sample of the numerous index cards that Blatt kept on each legislator. These date from the mid-1970s. His comments on each legislator included summaries of their political views and even some personal information. Blatt also searched for those with leadership potential whose skills he could cultivate. He notes, for example, that Ernest Finney has a ""good reputation"" and that he "will develop leadership with Negroes." In 1994, Finney would become Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.
