- As an influential state lawmaker, Blatt often wrote letters of recommendation for students entering college. Blatt was an alumnus of the University of South Carolina, and a member of the Board of Trustees until 1946, the year in which he wrote this letter. Blatt had to resign as a result of a law prohibiting holding multiple state offices. That year, his son Sol Jr. took his place on the Board. Nevertheless, Sol Blatt, Sr. maintained his interest in, and influence over, the University.
