- By the mid-1960s, the views of many South Carolina politicians on matters of race had moderated somewhat. Rather than explicitly espousing the continued segregation of public parks, Blatt tells this constituent that before he makes a decision, he is "going to determine how the people of my county feel about it." At the same time, he still admits to courting the white vote in the previous election.
