- Description:
- Here, Blatt complains to South Carolina Democratic Party chairman Don Fowler about frequent requests for funds for Democratic candidates. Although Blatt gave $100.00 to the Democratic Party, he is not happy about it. This particular difference of opinion between the two men is perhaps generational. Blatt rose to prominence at a time when campaigns were much less expensive and when there was no opposition party. For the most part, the Democratic Party provided minimal financial assistance to candidates. With the rise of the Republicans in South Carolina, and the increasing use of television commercials, campaigns became more costly. Blatt and Fowler often disagreed, with Fowler viewing Blatt as a member of the Old Guard who obstructed progress in the state.
