- In the summer of 1981, Billy Joe Stewart and Jean Hair were accused of molesting four young girls. Blatt served as the defense attorney to Stewart and Hair. After a plea bargain, the two defendants received light sentences. Blatt received a number of angry letters, as well as some letters of support from old friends. Blatt seems to have been most troubled by an editorial in The Gamecock that attacked both Blatt's defense of Stewart and his influence over the University.
