- Description:
- Blatt was the University of South Carolina's most important advocate in state government. When James Holderman was hired as the University's President in 1977, he cultivated a relationship with Blatt. Even though Holderman publicly honored Blatt, Blatt felt that he could speak frankly to Holderman about issues of importance. Blatt was concerned that the University did not advocate for its interests strongly enough, and over the years he warned numerous Presidents of the dire consequences of their failure to lobby legislatures regarding the school's needs.
