- Blatt took a keen interest in University of South Carolina athletics. In the earliest letter here, Blatt references "two boys in New York" who are interested in playing basketball at the University. These two boys are most likely John Roche and Tom Owens, both of whom would star at the University of South Carolina and go on to play in the NBA. As the other letters suggest, Blatt had a rocky relationship with basketball coach Frank McGuire. Blatt also wrote to football recruits in the state, encouraging them to play for South Carolina. He wrote this letter to Michael Dean Perry, younger brother of William "The Refrigerator" Perry. Perry decided to play at Clemson with his brother. He would go on to star in the NFL, even having a McDonald's sandwich named after him. The final letter is to football coach Joe Morrison congratulating him on his success over the previous season. The 1984 season was South Carolina's best up to that time. The team garnered a 10-1 record, including wins over Georgia, Clemson, Florida State, and Notre Dame.
