- Description:
- This year McCain attended several meetings concerning the education of black students and school desegregation, while also staying involved in getting more people registered to vote across the state. He makes note of the Sumter schools closing and how black parents became more involved with school board decisions regarding their children in response. He attended frequent race relation dialogue meetings. He travelled frequently around the state starting in his hometown, Sumter to Wedgefield, Mayesville, Spartanburg, Frogmore and Columbia, to Winnsboro, Camden, Kershaw and Kingstree, to Hampton and Jasper County to name a few. His commitment to the grassroots movement for voter registration and civil rights education is unceasing.
