- Description:
- Reading clerk John Butler reads petition submitted by the South Carolina State College student body calling for reforms in wake of Orangeburg "riots" (Orangeburg Massacre) to the South Carolina Senate. The resolution requests an open hearing into the February 8, 1968 shooting, that the charges against students arrested in February and March be dropped, and support for the increased budget requested by S.C. State president, Dr. Maceo Nance. State Senator Marion Gressette (Calhoun) recommends petition be turned over to various committees for study. Motion is carried.
