- Description:
- On February 6, 1970 the Sanford Herald reported that the governors from Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia were going to meet in Alabama to form a strategy to oppose wide scale school desegregation. Much to the chagrin and displeasure of many white South Carolinians, the Greenville News reported that Governor McNair had declined to attend the meeting. McNair reasoned that it was not in the best interest of South Carolina to project an image of defiance and recalcitrance.
