- Description:
- Robert E. McNair worked to improve the quality of life for South Carolinians for 20 years, serving first as a representative from Allendale County, then as Lieutenant Governor, and finally as the one hundred-eighth Governor of South Carolina. McNair's statesmanship was never more evident than when he choose to obey the orders to integrate South Carolina's schools despite the vehement opposition of many South Carolinians.
