- South Carolina celebrated its three hundredth anniversary in 1970. During the tricentennial, McNair and his family traveled to Great Britain to promote South Carolina and invite the Queen and others to the state for the year long festivities. Social columnist Christie Z. Fant reported on McNair's travels in Great Britain and his meal with the Queen.
