- Black-and-white photograph of supporters of the Clarendon County, South Carolina, school segregation case, also known as Briggs v. Elliott, taken at Saint James African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church in Lake City, South Carolina, taken on March 30, 1952. The photograph was taken at a meeting on the third anniversary of the movement to get twenty parents to file a lawsuit for equal educational opportunities and facilities in Clarendon County, South Carolina. The individuals in the photograph raised funds to send Reverend Joseph A. DeLaine to the National Conference of the A.M.E. Church after he was defeated as a delegate, and also to help with DeLaine's legal expenses. The individuals in the photograph are: Mr. L. B. Rivers, chair of the Executive Committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and president of the Clarendon County branch starting in 1953; Mrs. Ella Mud Ragin; Mrs. Rebecca Seals, a teacher who lost her job because of her support for Civil Rights; Mrs. Henretta Nelson; Mrs. Edward Frazier, wife of Reverend Frazier; Mrs. Rebecca Brown; and in the rear, Reverend Brooks Nelson and Mrs. Henretta Palmer.
"On the opposite side is a group of the backers and sympathizers in the struggle to bring the Clarendon County School Segregation Case. This is a voluntary group who raised the $400.00 which Rev. J. W. Seals presented to Rev. J. A. DeLaine to go to the 1952 General Conference after Rev. DeLaine was defeated in the Palmetto Conference as a delegate. This group also raised about $300.00 previous to this to help on the legal expenses of Rev. J. A. DeLaine when the defendants in the Clarendon County Segregation Case had DeLaine sued $20,000.00, through S. I. Benson's name, and five of them were the prosecuting witnesses who got the judgment against DeLaine for allegedly slander. This picture was taken in St. James A.M.E. Church at Lake City, S.C., during a testimonial meeting given by the people from Clarendon County (in Florence County) honoring Rev. J. A. DeLaine for the work that he had done in arousing the people of Clarendon County to action. This picture was taken on March 30, 1952 which was the third anniversary of the movement to get 20 parents for plaintiffs to file suit for Equal Educational Opportunities and Facilities; the first meeting in this campaign was held at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church March 20, 1949. The names are as follows: Mr. L. B. Rivers, Chairman of the NAACP Executive Committee and became president of the Clarendon County Branch in 1953; 2. Mrs. Ella (Mud) Ragin; 3. Mrs. Rebecca Seals, a teacher who lost her job because she and Rev. Seals took a stand; 4. Mrs. Henretta Nelson; 5. Mrs. Edward Frazier, wife of Rev.
