- Description:
- Letter from July 17, 1950 from Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr., of Lake City, South Carolina, to Herman M. Ridgill of Manning, South Carolina, regarding Ridgill's election as treasurer of Clarendon County. The letter notes the importance of African American votes and indicates that an undesirable communication from one of Ridgill's running mates made it impossible for African Americans to support him, which caused him to loose the senate election. DeLaine's typed note adds that Ridgill lived up to his promise, but that DeLaine was unsure if that changed after the organization of the White Citizens Council. This letter is the longer of two drafts in the collection.
