- Description:
- Letter from Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr. of Summerton, South Carolina, to attorney Charles Plowden, also of Summerton. The letter indicates that African Americans will support Plowden in his most recent candidacy, "in spite of the unfairness accorded us, growing out of the mistreatment of our children by a Negro principal during the term of 1948-1949, and developing into several lawsuits." Plowden was an alternate delegate from South Carolina at the 1948 Democratic National Convention. The African American principal mentioned was S. Isaiah Benson, principal of the Scott's Branch School in Clarendon County. The letter also requests a conference between the members of the Parents' Committee on Action and Plowden.
