- Two page press release dated May 28, 1985 announcing the retirement of I. DeQuincey Newman from the South Carolina Senate. The announcement indicates that Newman's retirement is due to failing health; it also includes a brief biography of Newman, including his civil rights leadership, career in the South Carolina Senate, and involvement in the Methodist Church. As senator, Newman served on the following committees: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Corrections and Penology, Fish, Game and Forestry, the General Committee, Medical Affairs and the Invitations Committee. He was also Chairman of the Governor's Rural Development Council. Newman was the founder and first pastor of the Francis Burns United Methodist Church in Columbia, and at the time of the press release, served as pastor of the Middleton-Rosemond United Methodist Church in Columbia.
